Following on from Emma G’s blog, we wanted to fill you in more with our thinking on the Nursery Manager role, whilst Leanne (the Nursery Manager from The Teepee) goes on maternity leave. As we’ve had some time to think about it we thought about working more creatively to find the right solution for both nurseries and looked at Emma Gealy Emma Matthews and thought we could do it differently with managers working functionally rather than based in a set location.
Emma G worked at The Teepee until we took over The Wigwam, where she was promoted to Manager. Emma must take the credit for turning the nursery around, recruiting the excellent team that we have there now and also implementing our health and safety practices and basically rolling out all of the policies that we have at The Teepee and Emma has been hugely successful in this. Emma Matthews joined us in 2008 and has since completed her Foundation Degree and has now moved on to studying for her Level 6, so she might also be an Early Years Professional (like Rebecca).
Emma G’s strengths lie in a smooth running nursery and so she will be responsible for all of the back of house stuff for both nurseries eg health and safety, as well as the kitchen and food and administration. If you have an issue she will oversee this process along with me as the director. Emma M’s strengths lie in supporting the team at a very involved level with improving our practice.
We have talked about this as a team this week at the monthly team meeting as well as aligning Ofsted and Early Years. Emma and Emma will work a week at a time in each nursery, so they have an opportunity to be present and have some stability. A photo of the manager on duty will be up on the noticeboard, for you to know at a glance. It will be a new way of working so directly sharing our strengths between the nurseries and we really hope that this will appear seamless for you and we look forward to an exciting time ahead.
