Firstly thank you to all the parents who attended the parent group meetings. We had some really good discussions on what we could do to improve our communications and we came up with a number of ideas, some of which we have already implemented:
· To brief new parents on blogging, what would go on a blog and what wouldn’t so you are clear on what we would use a blog for. We had a lot of discussion about blogs and their visibility. This has already been done – please let us know if this has worked
· For the manager to have regular catch ups with all new parents to see how they are settling in, whether they have found where everything is, if they have been receiving the weekly emails, or know who their key worker is for instance. We have just started to work on this so if you have any comments do let us know.
· To review the day sheets to make them more focused around what the parents want feedback on – we will trial this in one of our baby rooms – Rebecca is going to be working on this during the summer term.
· To run a Pre-school briefing for new parents to our pre-school rooms, explaining how we encourage the children’s development in early reading and writing and the benefits of play. Rebecca plans to run this probably termly and wanted to set a date for June the 14th. Please let us know if you are interested in coming along.
· To review our learning journals and encourage parents to take them home more – we will be trialling during the summer months making our learning journals more electronic in one of our rooms.
· We had really positive feedback on our home visits and how beneficial parents found them for settling their child in and getting to know us.
· The team were really praised on being friendly and communicating well at the beginning and end of the day
· For the managers to be more available through the week, with an open slot to run regularly on a Thursday afternoon from 4pm until July when it will revert to a Friday.
Sorry this is a big long list, but there was a lot we talked about!!!
