Inter-generational Project

The Wigwam Day Nursery close to Reading College, has been taking part in an inspiring inter-generational care project.

We have been lucky enough to have continued to take part in an inter-generational project with Reading College and St Luke’s Care Home. The project involves a group of children from our pre-school visiting the care home every two weeks and taking part in a variety of fun activities with the residents, led by the college students.

These activities have recently included decorating biscuits, making mother’s day cards, sharing stories, music and movement and an Easter egg hunt.

The children are encouraged to work closely with the residents to develop friendships that encourage them to support each other. They are experiencing being part of the local community and learning care and compassion for others as they form bonds with the residents.

They are also able to learn new social and communication skills and are being given a variety of new opportunities. They thoroughly enjoy their visits to the care home and are excited to go each week. We hope to continue to support Reading College with this project over the next academic year.

Here’s what one of our families thinks of The Wigwam Nursery:

My daughter has been attending the nursery for 2.5 years and loves going to the nursery (she never wants to leave when I pick her up) Her development has excelled through the activities, play and the interactions the nursery provides. Activities range from trips to the library/ on the bus/ fire station/, French lessons, dance lessons, cooking lessons, messy play, intergenerational project, painting, garden play and many more! The staff are very friendly, helpful and caring. The nursery has played a huge part in my daughter’s life and I’m glad that she had the pleasure of attending such a wonderful nursery as this one.
