Achievements & Awards
At The Wigwam Day Nursery we are very proud of our awards and achievements.
Investors in People
We achieved IIP Gold in February 2016. The inspectors said many wonderful things about us, including:
“The Wigwam is a very happy place to work. Everyone works well together and feels part of the team. They say it is a friendly place to work where people get on well with each other. Morale is therefore very high!
Staff are very committed to their jobs and to the company as a whole. They really are passionate about their work and many said they enjoy coming to work. They find the senior managers inspire them, and their influence has been strong in creating the kind of atmosphere that people both enjoy working in and where they want to do their best…”
The Children’s Food Trust: ‘Outstanding’
We received this award in February 2016 and were absolutely delighted. Adam Starkey, Chair of the Children’s Food Trust, said: “The Children’s Food Trust exists to protect every child’s right to eat better and, so, to do better. The Wigwam Day Nursery sets a great example. Congratulations to the whole team, we’re delighted to welcome you on board as one of our first award winners in Berkshire.”
Reading Quality Award
We achieved the Reading Quality award in September 2011; we are extremely proud as this award is a long and vigorous process and is based upon best practice and the best learning outcomes for children. The Quality Award is the local authority’s own evaluation of the care and education delivered at a school or nursery. The written evidence is separated into two stages and each assesses the elements of your setting in relation to the Early Years Foundation Stage and Every Child Matters.
Once the written evidence has been submitted a local authority assessor visits to observe practice, explore policies and procedures and interview team. Their evidence, along with the setting’s written evidence, is then submitted to a panel for verification. The panel then decides based if the setting is delivering a high level of care and education and awards those who are their quality award.
‘Good’ Ofsted Inspection
The Wigwam Day Nursery is proud to hold a ‘Good’ Ofsted report with aspects of outstanding. This means that Ofsted thinks we are a Good nursery with several areas that are outstanding, and the level of provision we provide is of a high quality.
Health, Safety & Security
First and foremost, of course, is the safety of the children in our care. We work with an independent health and safety consultant, helping to make sure we stay up to date and ensuring that we our nursery and practices are as safe as they can be. They specialise in, among other sectors, the day nursery environment. As a result we have been silver accredited by RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents).
Five Stars for Food Hygiene
We have the Food Standards Agency ‘five stars’ for our food hygiene, which is the highest rating you can get from the Environmental Health team in Reading. The rating is based on a review of systems and processes as well as the actual practice the inspector sees on the day of their ‘no notice inspection’. We’ve held this award since 2011.
We are currently working towards achieving our Millie’s Mark accreditation. Millie’s Mark is England’s gold standard in paediatric first aid and is named after Millie Thompson who died after choking on food at a nursery in 2012 when she was just nine months old. Millie’s parents, Dan and Joanne Thompson, founded Millie’s Trust and have successfully campaigned for changes to first aid requirements for childcare providers. The achievement of the mark acknowledges that staff within settings would be confident in maybe one day saving a child’s life if they needed to.
