Preschool Construction Area

Preschool Construction Area

Our Dancing Deers haven been talking about diggers and building. We therefore decided together, to make our own preschool construction area.

The first step, was to think about and decide what was needed on a building site. Lots of the children said that we must have hats for our heads and yellow jackets. The hardhats and high-visibility jackets were great fun to try on, but also led us to talking about keeping safe. The children decided it would be a good idea to have some rules. We therefore created our own preschool construction area rules. One rule is that only four people are allowed in at once; the preschoolers have lots of opportunities to practice their counting and work together to keep to the rules.

Early maths skills are something we work on in all rooms at The Wigwam Day Nursery…keep an eye out for our blog on this coming soon!

The preschoolers are a safety conscious bunch and decided that there should be some signs telling people that their preschool construction area is dangerous. This led us to a great activity making bunting using our fine motor skills and practising our writing. The preschoolers copied the word ‘danger’ and enjoyed threading the string to make the bunting. When making our preschool construction area, we developed all areas of development included in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Role play activities are such a fantastic, open-ended activity and our preschool construction area was no exception. From diggers and danger signs, we moved onto building a rocket and taking a trip to the moon!
